Office Information: The Auditor's Office serves as a Passport Acceptance Facility and processes applications for new passports, those expired for more than five (5) years, issued to minors, or lost, stolen, or damaged passports. We operate by appointment only, Tuesday through Thursday 9:00 am until 1:00 pm and Friday, 9:00 AM to Noon. While we do not create passports on-site, we accept applications, supporting documents, and fees for submission to the Passport Processing Facility.
Important Notes:
- Both parents must be present at the appointment for a minor child. For exceptions, please visit travel.state.gov. Please make arrangements for supervision of other minor children during the application process
Passport Types:
- U.S. Passport Book:
- Commonly requested for international travel
- Valid for ten (10) years for ages 16 and older, five (5) years for minors under 16
- U.S. Passport Card:
- For land border crossings or seaports-of-entry from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda
- Not valid for air travel
- Valid for ten (10) years for ages 16 and older, five (5) years for minors under 16. What to Bring:

- Completed application
- Find forms online at travel.state.gov or pick up at the Auditor’s Office
- Black ink pen for application signature
- Passport photos
- Avoid camouflage clothing, eyewear and headwear in photos
- Photo must be taken within the last 6 months
Documentation Requirements:
- Certified birth certificate and a copy.
- Driver’s license and a copy (front and back on the same page).
- Copies can be made in our office, with a charge for the service.
Payment Information:
- Payment to the US Department of State (passport fee) must be by check or money order.
- Payment to Aitkin County (processing fee and copies) can be by check or money order.
- Separate payments are required and cannot be combined on one check.
